Can the new aune SR7000 carry on the huge success of it's little brother the AR5000? aune have really set the cat amongst the pigeons with the AR5000 and SR7000.
Aune's new SR7000 Sea Reference are closed-back circumaural headphones with Ø50mm MLD (Multi-Layer Distributed) dynamic drivers. Its design, combining a composite ceramic diaphragm and flexible suspension, enables it to offer a frequency response ranging from 5Hz to 45,000Hz. Furthermore, the SR7000 benefits from innovations such as the use of acoustic metamaterials in the rear cavity and the special positioning of the drivers, resulting in a very wide soundstage, with exemplary stereo imaging and spacial clues presented in the music matched to a timbre devoid of the resonance usually found in closed headphones.
Dive deeper into your favourite melodies with the all-new Aune SR7000. It is a pair of high-end closed back headphones. These headphones are designed with new-generation features such as W-shaped ceramic polymer diaphragm, Tilted acoustic matrix design, Dragon Scale Acoustic Prism, etc. All these features overcomes the traditional limitations of a closed-back headphones and presents its listeners with an open and vivid sound profile. I had already ready purchased the AR5000 from Eden Audio, I loved the sound much I was curious how the SR7000 would compare. The sound is quite different, more open, airy and spacious with more transparency to the sound, a worthwhile upgrade and second pair, you can't go wrong with these and once again the service from Eden Audio is first class.
These are the best closed/semi closed headphones I have tried under £600. Especially if you value build and comfort along with sound, many headphones I have tried at similar prices have build or comfort issues.
Most headphones with suspension straps can look and feel bulky when there is a large gap between the strap and headband due to adjustments. Aune has designed this headband so both pieces adjust together, leaving a minimal gap to reduce bulk while keeping the added comfort suspension straps provide. The ear pads are thick, have a large opening and clamp force is the right amount. Lots of adjustment is available too which can suit a variety of head sizes.
They sound quite balanced with a bass boost, very good technicalities, being spacious abd having precise imaging. I'm not sure if this is due to the angled driver but it can feel a bit boxy and unnatural compared to standard driver implementations. I had this same experience with the Sennheiser Hd 620s. I think the tuning is very good but behind the technical ability, which I find the opposite of the Focal Azurys for example (excellent tuning with only decent tech.) The treble specifically is very well executed, there are no peaks and sibilance, it is smooth without being particularly recessed. I find the lower midrange a bit scooped however and would like more fullness from the mids.
The isolation is excellent with fully leather pads but keep in mind these are semi closed headphones (lots of side venting), the sound leakage is very high such as with an open back despite the exceptional isolation.
I prefer these headphones over other sets I have owned such as the Focal Azurys, Fostex TH610, DCA Aeon Closed X, Beyerdynamic DT 177X, Sennheiser HD 620s
The accessories are also quite good, including a hard shell travel case, black cloth braided 2-core 3.5mm cable with metal plugs/splitter, and a more flashy 4-core copper coloured 4.4mm balanced cable which I did not use as my amplifier only supports 3.5mm.
